Beetroot Juice - Natural Wonder To Fight High Blood Pressure?


If you follow health-related issues it's hard to miss the news: beetroot juice is the latest "miracle" food in the fight against high blood pressure. A study conducted by the London School of Medicine has revealed that drinking beetroot juice can significantly lower blood pressure. The effect was noted in healthy volunteers within an hour of consuming the juice. What's more, the reduction in blood pressure was even greater after three to four hours and the effect lasted for up to 24 hours.

Beetroot is high in nitrates, the compounds shown to be responsible for the effect. The nitrates are converted into nitrite by bacteria in saliva. The nitrite is then swallowed with the saliva and exerts a powerful effect on body chemistry that reduces blood pressure. The lowest levels of blood pressure in the subjects coincided with the time of highest nitrite levels in their blood.

With drops in blood pressure of around 10 points systolic and 8 points diastolic compared to the control group, and considering the duration of the effect, these are notable results. But before you beat a path to your local supermarket to stock up on beet juice here are a few points to consider:


First, you probably won't find any. Beetroot juice is not commonly stocked by mainstream supermarkets. It can be found in some healthfood stores and ordered via the Internet, although the prices will put many people off. (Don't confuse the liquid in jars of beetroot with the juice. This is merely pickling brine -yuk! - colored by the beets.)




The volume of juice required was relatively large: 500 milliliters, equivalent to 2 extra-large glasses.


The method of consuming the juice in order to convert the nitrates to beneficial nitrite may also put some people off. At the very least, it's not terribly practical on a regular basis; it requires thoroughly mixing the beetroot juice with saliva and swallowing the mixture. After the initial consumption you need to continue producing saliva and swallowing it over the next few hours (yuk, again!).

NOTE: If you are still keen to follow this procedure do be prepared for a shock on your next visit to the toilet!


The subjects of this study were "healthy volunteers". The results do not necessarily predict those that would be experienced by people with high blood pressure Some types of hypertension are extremely resistant to treatment. Testing needs to be conducted on subjects actually afflicted with the condition in order to be more meaningful.


Blood pressure reductions obtained in this way and averaged over 24 hours are minimal. Even the reduction of 10 over 8 at the time of maximum impact would not make a significant difference to those suffering from serious hypertension, especially in light of the cost and practical considerations.


So beetroot juice is obviously not the natural wonder you might mistake it for from all the news. But there is still a very positive point to it . Beetroot shares its abundance of nitrates with leafy green vegetables such as spinach, celery and lettuce, all noted for their positive effect on blood pressure. Celery in particular, most notably in the root where the compounds are highly concentrated, has gained widespread recognition as a potent food that can lower blood pressure.

The study reinforces the advice that a healthy diet high in nitrate-rich foods is an essential part of an overall strategy for reducing high blood pressure. Foods that are high in nitrates include not only the leafy green vegetables and beets mentioned above but also carrots, cabbage, radishes and most other vegetables. Curiously, cured meats are also high in nitrates and may not be as bad for you as previously thought. In fact, there is evidence that they may even help in survival and recovery from heart attacks.

In response to a great marketing opportunity, you may well see beetroot juice appearing soon at your local supermarket, maybe even labeled with something like "the natural wonder that fights high blood pressure". Don't fall for it. No single food, supplement or herb is a high blood pressure beater on its own. Mind, Body and Natural Medicine


I am going to talk about your mind, body, and Cure with natural medicine. Everything is up to you how you control yourself from over weights, chronic disease, and Stress. First I am going to emphasize about Over Weight Problem: In order to control your weight and never gain again, you need to first set your goal. You can absolutely do it if you set your mind. You do not need to join expensive fitness club or take diet pills. Following step by step procedure will take your weight off and you will never gain weight again.

Let's start with developing eating habit, exercise, and managing stress.

• Get up in the morning and first thing you should let your body relax. Stand in a quiet place put one hand up and one hand down stretch your body for couple of minutes from left to right, right to left, up and down. The best thing to do is YOGA for 15 minutes.

I will get to yoga for mind and body later.

Time to eat breakfast: Remember food and stress level is the key to gain weight. So I am going to stay on low fat and low carb diet.

I love green vegetable and fresh fruits. I also love whole wheat bread rather then white. You do not have to give up your taste. I will take one egg without yolk to make omelet. Mix with some pees, green bean, carrot and piece of finely chopped red onion. In a fry pan put half tea spoon of olive or canola oil and lightly cook the mixed egg. Now take two pieces of wheat bread toasted and use very little low fat butter, one cup of fresh orange juice avoid any processed juice of any kind that tends to have high sugar and calories. Always best to drink glass of water. You can take fresh squeezed juice or light fat free glass of milk. Note: you do not have to make omelet, you can simply use "sunny side up" egg too or simply eat bowl of oatmeal cereal with low fat milk. Consider reversing each meal with different things and make sure always focus on low fat low carve diet with green leafy vegetable and fresh fruits. I like everything organic.

• Lunch: make sure eat green salad with out any dressing or use one table spoon of sugar free low carve dressing or simply squeezed lemon juice on your salad. Low carve sandwich without cheese. White meat backed chicken, tuna or backed salmon sandwich, bottle of water or diet coke. Make sure the portion has to be less and not one and half foot sandwich. Always choose backed chicken over fry or simply go for vegetarian. Note: this is just the example of eating well. You can develop you own method but remember the key is low fat, low carve, low sugar and more green, fruits and vegetable. • Dinner: Make sure again low carve dinner preferably backed salmon, backed chicken Brest with whole wheat bread and eat green salad. Be careful to use butter or other saturated fat. If you use butter make sure to use low fat margarine half a table spoon instead of three spoons. Cut down all fatty foods from your diet and avoid red meat. If you like ice cream or desert, take half a cup or sugarless low fat ice cream or sugarless law fat pumpkin pie or anything in this nature. Again watch the portion of desert and do not take 5 slices of pie or 5 scoops of ice cream. Make sure always eat some fresh fruits and lots of water. I love green tea it has tremendous health benefit.

• Time to exercise: Find time to walk for 20 minutes, 5 times a week or if you are energetic go for 20 minute basket ball, tennis, biking or simply use treadmill at home. Remember walking has the overall more benefit then any other exercise.

• Make routing schedule for all of the above and see yourself in the mirror 6 months from now and you will find life is precious.

The McKenzie method a natural treatment for conventional medicine

The McKenzie method is a popular form of therapy by many physiotherapists, chiropractors and other health care professionals. It is to relieve actively to the patient with a series of specific exercises for the back and neck pain. Many of the exercises can be performed at home with formal training, which enables the patient to ongoing maintenance to prevent further Flare-Ups.

A physical therapist from New Zealand with the name Robin McKenzie in the 1960s developed the McKenzie method. McKenzie believed that he could be pain levels in his patients by extending the spine with a prescribed method. He found his program helped his patients significantly, so much so, that they could return to their normal daily activities.

He formalized this program, and it is used by the everywhere in the medical field.

The McKenzie Method

After a thorough review in which it determines is whether the patient is a candidate for the McKenzie method can start the initial treatments.

Examples:

Constant forward curve Stand with your feet. Head over to reach, and then set the hands down, for the feet to reach. Allow to hang your head and relax.

Seated forward curve - upright sitting on the floor with your legs spread. Go your hands on your feet to the front. You can easily and simply relax the head writing. Keep for up to one minute.

Lying spine extension -lie flat on your stomach. Place your hands under your shoulders. Press in the floor and lift your upper body to slightly forward. Keep for up to one minute.

Single leg stretch - lie flat on your back. Bring the right foot and reach for the leg with his hands. Carefully pull it into the body. Keep flat on the ground the legs straight and the back. Repeat the exercise on the left leg.

Spinal flexion -lie on the ground on the back. Bend both knees and embrace them in the chest, with your arms. Keep your head on the floor and your neck relaxed. Keep for up to one minute.

Seated look neck stretch - upright you sit on a Stuhl.Halten your hands on your pages and your feet flat on the ground. Write your Chin to the chest and extend the back of the neck. Keep for up to one minute.

Differently than many conventional medical treatments, which is abandoned, exclusively on the therapist or practitioner the ultimate goal of the McKenzie method to educate patients and it enable them, self treatments continue. The method can be used to both treat and prevent that chronic neck and back pain.
